once for seaside days out, the coast at Horden was very badly scarred
by the tipping of colliery spoil. It is now benefiting from the restoration
of the 57 acre colliery site to rolling grassland, a recreation of
the natural Magnesian Limestone grassland found just to the south
of the village. The village is a product of the mining industry with
the colliery named after a farm, at its peak the colliery employed
over 6,000 men and boys |
